The Google Chrome Download Bar is more of an annoyance rather than being a helpful feature. If I wanted to see my downloads, I would prefer to press Ctrl+J instead of seeing the Download Bar popup every time I download something. How to disable it then? Well, it's pretty simple actually.
In previous versions of Google Chrome, there used to be an option in chrome://flags, you can set "Download Status in Notification Center" to "Enabled" which will display downloads in a Notification popup instead of the downloads bar. However, it is not available any longer. So we use a Google Chrome Extension instead. You can use the "Disable Download Bar" extension to do just that, disable the Download Bar in Google Chrome. You can find it on the Chrome Web Store here. It's a simple, no-frills attached extension which has no other function than disabling the Download Bar.
Install this, and the next time you want to see if your downloads are completed or not, simple press Ctrl+J, and voila!
